World Humanitarian Day - 2020

Image
On World Humanitarian Day, 19 August, we pay a special tribute to the real-life heroes – humanitarians and front-line workers who are doing extraordinary things to help people whose lives have been turned upside down by crises, including COVID-19!! The psychosocially challenged population is especially in need of help. It is specifically and especially during these trying times that the GWRM – GL OBAL WOMEN’S RECOVERY MOVEMENT LED BY DR. LAVANYA SESHASAYEE is doing what it is most suited to do in the field of mental health: looking at mental health issues via a woman-empowering, client-empowering perspective and reaching out to the lost. And we are reaching out to caregivers of women with psychosocial challenges who are most hard-hit along with their wards. Please check our social media pages on various platforms  Schizophrenic Turned Recovery Specialist  i.e. Ex_Schizo_nowDr for updates on DR. LAVANYA SESHASAYEE’S WORK. #WorldHumanitarianDay   #HumanitarianDay2020  ...

International Youth Day

Demand mental health and emotional support that is rightfully yours and gets it!!! What is it that you should make your elders understand? We need to adopt a new approach towards addressing social and stress-related problems that can escalate into mental health problems if not treated at an early stage thus causing unbearable anguish both to the youth and the family. After all, anyone of our child ren can succumb to a psychosocial disability when faced with innumerable pressures and tragic misfortunes if they don’t have a shoulder to lean on or an environmental buffer to absorb their emotional shocks. It is important for mental health therapeutic systems to be sensitive too. We need to save teenagers from civil deaths wherein a person lives but is still treated as a non-entity and is deprived of her/his human rights in the context of being a patient [user-consumer is a more sensitive term that could be used to address such people]. If the quality of life of the teenager is to be good t...

IT WAS THE ERA OF USER-SURVIVORS

Image
HEY GUYS, HERE IS AN EXTRACT FROM MY UPCOMING BOOK!!! “THE SPECIAL GIFTS I HAVE MUST ALSO BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE OTHERS – THE WHOLE GAMUT OF USERS AND SURVIVORS. O SIR, O MADAM, IF ONLY YOU WERE TO LET ME TALK OF WHAT REALLY HELPED TO OVERCOME MY PSYCHOSOCIAL DISABILITY!!!” SAID I. The user survivor movement across the world was rapidly growing and flourishing. The excitement was in the air even as users and survivors of psychiatry joined hands to oust psychiatric domination and the methods involved in forced psychiatric treatment. Who were the user-survivors? What did being a user-survivor entail? These were the people who psychiatry had treated sometime or the other for what was called ‘mental illness’. The users found Psychiatry helpful in addressing their problems but still had issues with some unhelpful bits in Psychiatry that they wanted to change. The survivors were people who found Psychiatry unhelpful [as they had been treated quite insensitively by Psychiatry] and wan...

Wednesday Motivation - Positive in Lockdown

Hey guys, Journaling about how you are feeling can be very effective in times like these when a lot of us are dealing with coronavirus anxiety. Journaling can be a great stress reducer through arranging one’s thoughts, clearing one’s cluttered mind and it also facilitates problem-solving of many kinds. If you find yourself just chronicling the days’ events (which can become mundane), instead try d escribing what you are experiencing through your five senses or write about memories. And connect with people you like via writing during these times so that you don’t feel anxious or left out, but if you’d like to write for yourself alone, then that is also welcome!!! Write e-notes to yourself!!! If you’ve tried to write a journal but have never really developed the habit, simply describe your days spent in isolation. Even if you don’t end up writing a book based on your journal like I did, writing about your days will help put your experiences in the right perspective and let you capture th...
