Importance Of Sharing Things With Others | By Dr. Lavanya Seshasayee
What is the importance of sharing things we have – the good things of life – with others? Will leading a very selfish life be a precursor to mental health issues at a later stage? The answer is oftentimes a big ‘’ÝES”. Mental illness is the consequence of leading a very solitary life – it could be a life wherein you haven’t really emotionally connected with others for a long time because you think ‘socializing is a waste of time’. You haven’t really understood the art and value of connecting emotionally with people and building relationships with them and making them feel happy being in your presence. I learned this the hard way - through initiation into the teachings of Christ. And a rigorous study of THE HOLY BIBLE. I am not asking anybody to follow the path I followed unless they want to but all I am saying is that it is in loving and sharing and caring that our highest destiny in life is fulfilled. When I met Mother Teresa of Calcutta it was a real eye-opener because she said ‘a family that prays together stays together and if we pray together we will love each other as GOD has loved every one of us.’ Sharing was an offshoot of this. She really stressed upon sharing our gifts with others and irrespective of whether or not these gifts were material. She talked of these beautiful values in life and that was what led to a 180-degree turn in my own life.
I began recovering from mental health issues when I began sharing things with people around me and helping them. In helping others I learned to deal effectively with my own internal demons and conquering them. And that was the beginning of RECOVERY for me!!!
